Vacation Trips to MoroccoVisible from our Resort in Calahonda, and only an hour’s ferry ride from the Costa del Sol, Spain is the city of Tangier in Morocco. Tangier, also known as the “White City” and the real model for the famous American film “Casablanca” with Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, has a lot to offer and a lot to see around it’s lively city centre. Explore Tangier
Very much a tourist town, Tangier serves both Moroccan families on holidays and Europeans on one-day African excursions from the Costa del Sol. The Beaches make up a several kilometres with the white houses of Tangier as a frame, before ending in barren mountains of which there is nothing further north than the sea and the continent of Europe. The medina is quite big with many commercial areas and is composed of narrow streets, different styles of houses. Most of the medina serves the tourist traffic, although other areas are solely devoted to living. The medina gate, near the Great Mosque is one of the more popular as it connects directly to the Beaches. This entrance is one of the most fascinating old parts of Tangier. The Kasbah is easily one of the most attractive areas of Tangier and is dominated by its fortifications, which still remain in very good condtion. Holiday Trips to North Africa
Most visitors from the Costa del Sol take a day trip, information for which is available from the Resort’s Reception. It is an idea way to experience Africa and go Shopping for exotic local gifts such as arts and crafts, carpets, spices, herbs and the local cuisine. In fact, most visitors to La Orquidea often delight in returning home with the experience of visiting Spain, Gibraltar and Morocco, three different countries and two different continents, all from one holiday. |
