Holiday Trips to Almeria

In the far south eastern corner of Andalucia, with the highest hours of sunshine and lowest rainfall in Europe is Almeria.

Much of the province of Almeria has a desert-like and sparsely populated landscape.

The port of Almeria is overlooked by a vast Moorish citadel called the Alcazaba, which alongside Almeria’s old town is well worth a visit.

The most popular resorts along the coast of Almeria are Roquetas de Mar and Mojacar, the latter having the highest concentration of foreign residents in the province.

These coastal towns are not as developed as the Costa del Sol, and offer a completely different experience of Spain.

Inland, Almeria province is a parched, lunar landscape of low, mostly barren mountains and dried-up river beds, comprising scene from the North American Wild West.

This is where many of the most famous spaghetti westerns were shot, including A Fistful of Dollars.
